Gross Domestic Product or GDP of any nation is a reflection of their
financial growth linked to carbon emissions and food consumption. Hence,
the GDP is an indicator of future energy and food needs of the following

This above rankings are based on projections by International Monetary Fund
(IMF) outlook
dated April 2018 for year 2018 and 2023.
According
to the IMF the top ten countries in nominal terms in 2018 were : United States, China, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, France, India, Italy, Brazil and Canada. In ppp terms, Top ten countries are : China, United States, India, Japan, Germany, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, United Kingdom and France.
In
the top 10, eight countries are common in both methods. Italy and Canada are in top 10 on nominal basis, while Russia and Indonesia are in
the top 10 on ppp basis. Contribution of top ten economies is 67.1 percent and 61.54 percent of total global wealth in nominal and ppp terms, respectively.
In both methods the United States and China occupied the first two
places. The US is the largest economy of the world on nominal basis whereas China is largest
on ppp basis. US is ahead of China by $6320 billion in 2018. This margin may come down to $2963 in 2023. China has overtook US in 2014 on ppp basis. China will remain the world's largest economy on ppp basis over the next few decades as 2nd ranked US is growing slow and 3rd ranked India is way behind.
In nominal ranking,
the gap between United Kingdom, France and India (5th to 7th) is very
low. India as a fast growing nation may overtake them within 1-2 year.
Among the top 10
economies, India has very low per capita income having 142th position in nominal and 126th position in ppp ranking. next lower ranked economy is china at 72th place in nominal and Indonesia at 99th place in ppp terms.
United States (1,9) is present in both list of top ten GDP and GDP per capita ranking at nominal terms. Germany (4,17), Canada (10,20), Australia (14,11), Netherlands (17,13) and Switzerland (20,2) are in top twenty list of both ranking. In PPP, no economy in top ten in both ranking. Four economies in both list of top 20: United States (2,12), Germany (5,18), Saudi Arabia (17,15) and Australia (19,20).
